Who received this praise from Abraham Lincoln: "I never knew him to be guilty of a falsehood or of an act beneath a gentleman", and how did he die in July 1865?

Anson G. HENRY (1804-1865). He died in a shipwreck.

"What a great big-hearted man he is. Henry" (that is Dr. Anson G. Henry President Lincoln's doctor and friend) is one of the best men I have ever known. He sometimes commits an error of judgement, but I never knew him to be guilty of a falsehood or of an act beneath a gentleman. He is the soul of truth and honor".

He would be killed on July 30 1865 while he was traveling through Panama to California, when his ship - encountered a storm - struck a submerged rock - off St. George Reef off Crescent City California - 200 people on board - 19 survived - he was not one of them.
