The only Earp that did both was Virgil (1843-1905) who served in the 83rd Illinois Infantry Company C from July 26, 1862 to June 26, 1865 and in October of 1880 he served as sheriff (some sources say "acting town sheriff) of Tombstone, Arizona where a year later he was involved at the O.K. Corral.

2) Virgil had enlisted in Company C of the 83rd Illinois Infantry on July 26th, 1862 and served until June 26th, 1865.
