Kaboom, a new kind of question!!
Very good!

My guess, supported through an internet source is, that this weapon is a a rifled cannon, a 20 pounder Parrot gun.

"Army Captain Robert P. Parrott was the designer of a series of Northern rifles, used by both Army and Navy. They had a better range than the Dahlgrens, but they were somewhat prone to bursting, especially the heavier calibers demanded by naval combat. Parrott rifles were mounted in several Union monitors, as well as the Galena and New Ironsides."

The ordnance described in the trivia question is a 20 pounder Parrot Gun

I am going with a 20 pound Parrott.

I have gotten into artillery over the last year and I have noticed that cannon specifications differ slightly between source. Bradley Gottfried's The Artillery of Gettysburg has many of the above specs for the 20 pound parrot.

The source I used below shows many of the specs for a naval 20# Parrott including the 6.5 second flight time and 14.5" max diameter.

WOULD THAT BE THE 20 POUND PARROT RIFLE???

Edit - Yes, it would, MMoore83. Welcome to the trivia game and to CivilWarTalk.

I see you made two subsequent posts to correct the spelling. For future reference, I don't mark off for spelling unless it's bad enough to change the meaning of the answer. In this case, those players who answered "Parrot" instead of "Parrott" were all given credit for a correct response.
