Trivia 10-10-18 Improved Designs

I would guess James H. Burton. He improved the design of the minie ball or bullet which was adopted by the U.S. government in 1855. I just recently read an article about this man who was an extraordinary genius. His original plans for the minie ball were actually found in his home in Winchester, Virginia in the attic by the current owner in 1986. Very interesting chap!!! David.

Augustus McBurth , wooden sabots

Edit - Augustus McBurth did invent what he claimed was an improvement to artillery projectiles in 1855, but I can't find anything to verify that his invention was a wooden sabot or that McBurth fits any of the other clues regarding places where he lived.
