Who am I?
When the civil war began I joined the army. As Sergeant Major I rode northwards into our first great battle. When my Colonel became a General I accompanied him on his staff and became a Major and Quartermaster. I resigned when my health required it and reenlisted when my health allowed it. Acting as a courier on the staff of my General I eventually was made an officer again; and afterwards I became a teacher, farmer and politician.
