False - according to Wikipedia RPI’s Department of Mathematical Sciences is housed in Amos Eaton Hall named for RPI’s co-founder and he died in 1842, so he was unable to be a Civil War General. He did have a son also named Amos Eaton that was a civil war general - but it is not named in his honor - but his father’s.

False. According to Wikipedia, the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is currently housed in the Amos Eaton Hall, named after the co-founder and first senior professor of Rensselaer, Amos Eaton, who died before the Civil War, so the building cannot be named after a Civil War general.

False. RPI's Department of Mathematical Sciences is housed in Amos Eaton Hall, named for Amos Eaton (1776-1842), co-founder and first Senior Professor of the institution.
