False - according to Wikipedia RPI’s Department of Mathematical Sciences is housed in Amos Eaton Hall named for RPI’s co-founder and he died in 1842, so he was unable to be a Civil War General. He did have a son also named Amos Eaton that was a civil war general - but it is not named in his honor - but his father’s.

False.

The building is named for botanist and geologist Amos Eaton, who died before the Civil War had even started.
