Wow! New view!

Just struck me....this is a great view for those concerned about the heights of LRT, BRT, etc. and the effect on any Confederate advances. You know...the "heights" they had to scale......

We may have to make it a required stop before discussion.

It does give a unique perspective, doesn't it? There are a bunch of different places on the field where you can get a better feel for the "height" of the Round Tops, like the Trostle thicket and of course Plum Run Valley at the foot of LRT. No cameras there but mine, however.

Yours is quite good! I thought about it because I was staring at the photo on the bedroom wall of LRT and thinking it was about the same size as the hill behind our house when I was growing up.

If you find the Codori farm, about halfway down the Emmitsburg Road, the new view is looking roughly from about Hancock's Union line (Birney) to Gates (Gibbon) or Harlow. The old view was toward roughly where the name Longstreet is above Spangler's Woods, in the opposite direction.

THIS. Thank you, it's the Dr Seus approach for the beginner, you guys showing the ground on top of maps on top of explaining/reading ' what happened'- first time ever these things made sense. You folks could ' bottle' this Earth cam/battle map/walk though thing, you know. Be very cool!

There's a Gettysburg thread? Take part of the battle, your favorite person/ancestor Confederate or Union, put one together per post? Is that silly? I'll know it is if this is politely ignored, no worries. :) Was being hopeful, you learn a ton pressing your nose to the window here.

I know what you mean.
Whenever I like to have a look during my coffee break I just see some lights from cars or road work, because then it's about 2:00 or 3:00 am there!
But I liked the sound of the cars going by, made me feel as if I were really there.

Let us know when you can make it, I smell a forum meetup. Pam will bring coffee.

I agree about the sounds of the cars. You can still hear them, but not as well. Every now and then at school, when I had my planning period, I'd leave the site up, just to "listen" to it.

Good idea. Go ahead, you start it. We'll follow your lead!

Now I have seen (and heard) it too. Have to get used to the fact that I'm not looking to "Robert E. Lee sitting astride Traveller" any more.
Look like it's pretty chilly over where you are at the Moment?! Just 28 degrees Fahrenheit, that is minus 2 Celsius? Is it really this cold there now??

I don't know but according to the Weather Channel, at the moment it's 75 degrees Fahrenheit in Gettysburg, and pretty humid. A couple weeks ago, it felt like fall, but this week summer has come roaring back, just in time for the new school year (my school doesn't have air conditioning)!

I also liked the old view because our weather here at home comes west through Gettysburg first. I loved seeing the rain or snow sweep across the Pickett's Charge fields. I'll have wait until it crosses the Emmitsburg Road now.

I hope I will be able to make it in 2016 and do not interfere with somebody's daughter's wedding :D:D:D

Included Pam bringing coffee because I threw her last cup all over someone's nice, clean car- which reeked of it for the rest of the day, too. To top off my ever-lasting guilt, they even refused allowing me to contribute a share in gas expenses! I'd offer to bring our huge travel van next time, not sure anyone would consent to ride in it? Awfully comfortable. Bought it for long hauls, just looks a little like a brothel on wheels.

You just say WHEN in 2016 and I'll infuriate my daughter by telling her she may not pick that weekend for her wedding. OHH boy, if I say ' Civil War' and ' Your Wedding ' in the same sentence..... going to be un-pretty.

Was just there Sat/Sun....Looked up some witness trees, observed the artillery demonstration at the Pa. Monument, took a ranger walk of Culps hill....and fought my way through all the underbrush, spider webs, sticker bushes and downed trees to see the lost Co. B marker on L R T... OHH and a 3 ft long brown snake..... Great Time
The Witness tree thread is very helpful on locating these trees....Tks for all the input from you Guys/Gals

Shoot! I was supposed to be out there Saturday, too, but then a construction truck threw a stone into my windshield on 422, and cracked it--had to get that fixed! Bad timing! I probably would've run into you out there, since I would've been doing the witness tree thing, and been on LRT. Rather you than the snake--yikes! Haven't seen one out there since I bumped into a black snake where the old trolley path crosses Plum Run a couple years ago--thankfully!
