Coffee and Battlefields

Everyone knows how important Coffee was to the Civil War Soldier..So this topic will be on some great stops for coffee either before or after visiting battlefields.. My favorite Gettysburg stop is the Ragged Edge. They make some strong expresso and have a beautiful outdoor cafe where you can chill out after touring Culps Hill... My favorite Battlefield coffee house is Hyperion in Fredericksburg. I can't believe that expresso could be that good south of the Mason Dixon line.

You can't buy coffee there, but if you go to Antietam, be sure to visit the McKinley Monument over by Burnside Bridge. It is a tribute to William McKinley serving coffee to his regiment under fire.

Like providing springfields to mash the coffee beans or maybe hardtack to have something soft to eat with your beans? Sounds neat.

Ah, the only aspect of reenacting which is tough for me, Coffee. Had my last cup in the field at Ft Bragg 1985. The guys thought I was some sort of weirdo because I quit drinking coffee. They were right, me being a weirdo, but I do not attribute that to not drinking coffee.
