The Hunley Museum

There is alot of history behind her. When she was docked at the San Jacinto Battleground it was a "double treat" to visit that place.
Absolutely. I was telling the guy I was in a band with back home how lucky he was to go to that field snd see the ship every year. He blank stared me like, "Big deal."

I followed the repair work pretty close. My grandfather was a harbor pilot so I grew up on the water and learned some profoundly foul language at a young age.

I am curious as to whether the descendants of the crew were given an option for having the keepsakes returned to them, or have them donated to the museum. Thanks,
Lubliner.
I can only assume this donation was cleared by the descendants of the crew. I am not trying to muddy waters here to stir up a controversy. I was honestly curious about the policy used by museums, same as with the Monitor at the Mariner's Museum.
Thanks,
Lubliner.

To sow it up as a watertight donation. Thought a prudently operated museum would get any donor with lawful title to an item to sign a deed of assignment, transferring absolute ownership (to prevent any attempt at recovery later.)

A better question is how the heck did they raise it each of the first two times it sunk with 1860's technology. They didn't have scuba gear then unless they hooked it somehow and dragged it back to port with the sun being full of water.

I would think not. Under the law of finds, in simple terms, anyone who retrieves goods from a ship that has been sunk for sometime is the owner of the recovered goods. So the descendants would have any legal title to them.
