160th Gettysburg Annivesary Reenactment

Good day everybody,

I had already inquired about the 160th Gettysburg Annivesary Reenactment at the end of last year, so I was told that the GBPA event was the "bigger" event, which apparently isn't the case, but the PCWA one. I can neither rebook my holiday, flight, hotel or rental car to the other event. So I wanted to politely ask if any reenactment groups are still traveling to the GBPA event and maybe have room for a confederate? It would only be a daytime guest as I have booked a hotel in Chambersburg. Of course I also pay for it as a guest there.

It's a shame it's split up and not one "big one" it's even split amongst our own group which consists of 2 companies. We had our first event of the year this past weekend so it was the first time we've all been together in a while. Apparently one company is going to one and one the other. A couple ambitious guys are spending the week and doing both. It does seem the first one has gotten more interest but don't worry about a numbers game. You'll have a great trip and hope you have some days planned to spend in the park. The majority of my company want to do the first event so that's where I'll be. If I remember correctly I think @Yankee Brooke company is going to the Lady Farm event, maybe she can help you.

Honestly, both the Daniel Lady Farm and PCWA are going to be circuses. PCWA is just doing a better job of presenting itself.

A much better option for the anniversary weekend itself would be one of the NPS Sanctioned living history being conducted on the battlefield.

If interested in a Confederate portrayal, check out the 8th Florida program being put on my the Liberty Guards. The authenticity standards are high, but not unattainable; it is a typical ANV impression.

I was really eyeballing the 8th Florida event, I'd really like to do it but my guys want to do the battle so I'll be there for them.

Thanks for your reply Cpt. Drew. Well I probably went with the wrong expectations and had the pictures of the 150th anniversary reenactment in mind. Because that was even seen in the German news at the time. On the one hand you can understand it if you see re-enactors with sunglasses etc. on the other hand you will hardly come up with this mass with the divided units. Nevertheless many, I will certainly accept one of the invitations here.

Hello Old Breck, I'll check it out in a minute. I have a uniform, brogans, shirt and harness. I'll get a hat or kepi in Gettysburg first. I don't know if I can live up to that standard. At least I try.

Unfortunately you'll probably never see the events on the scale of the 150th again. That certainly doesn't mean there won't be good events and sometimes quality beats quantity. You'll have a good time and any visit to Gettysburg is special. I'm sure you'll have a great trip.

The NR is doing the PCWA event as a max effort. Anders usually does a decent job and rumor has it he is getting out of the CW business, so we'll give that one a shot.

I am doing the one of the campaigner battalions at the PCWA event. I am trying to keep an open mind, but I do worry that they are trying to do too much. Also the constant complaining (whining) from certain types that the event dare put up uniform standards is kind of disheartening when I think about who else will be on the field

Shuttles running from the camps, modern signs being placed in an around the camps; these are things that would detract from any event and have nothing to do with uniform standards.

Why spend money on making modern signs when posterboard or scrap lumber would do? Money spent on superfluous and unnecessarily things like is money that isn't going to preservation... wait is there even a preservation aspect to this? I am 100% convinced PCWA is a For-Profit event.

The very fact that people have to keep an open mind and rationalize themselves into going, tells me it isn't worth going to.

Save yourself the hassle and attend one of the NPS Programs

Dustin's latest video just encouraged people to 'skip the rush' and not visit the actual battlefield due to crowds.

I realize he's an affable guy, but it is pretty evident that he wants your money, first and foremost.

Getting worse by the day? Where did you get info that signs will be placed in camps? These signs will make things easier for people when they are driving to the event. He and his staff is working very hard to make this successful and it will be. BTW, they are looking to make money to put a church built in the 1830's and will be hosting a service on Sunday morning at the reenactment on the National Historic register list.

Please ignore the people complaining. Most if not all of them have no plans on being there. Go and enjoy yourself. See you there.

Agreed, I can't make this one, but i got a number of pards going (all the from GA). The signs are a heck of a lot better than cardboard and printer paper you see at some places. Looks almost professional. This PCWA event will probably have a good brigade on brigade fight with an appropriate number of cannons which is really the best way to do it if you don't have 10k reenactors. Beats the heck out of 30-50 dudes trying to be a full regiment so you can have a division.

Agree 100%. My son and I will be there. It is his first Gettysburg reenactment. At 16 years old he will be able to carry a musket. During Sunday's scenario our battalion will be portraying the 12th NJVI. That is the unit we are in. We don't get the chance to portray the 12th at reenactments often. Should be a great event.

Man, the disparaging of groups and other events is really disheartening to hear,,,the hobby is dying a slow death as is,,,why help speed it up? If an event doesn't suit you, dont attend. Posting negative feelings to a civil war group, about a civil war event is about as self destructive to as it gets. The hobby has enough detractors and critics from the outside, we certainly dont need it from within the hobby. Not good, not good at all.

I won't be at the PCWA event because I don't have a company to fall in with, I'm not buying a union kit, and I won't have a jacket in time at this point. I won't even have a good jacket for the Farm event, which is a bummer, but at least they'll let me in with my cheap farby one I'm trying to replace.

Wouldn't they find a unit for you to fall in with? There seems to be a lot of ppl looking for a unit, and they seemed eager to to make sure everyone can participate. They weren't going to be thread counting, I'd reach out to them, unless you have already. I've had no issue at all getting fast replies to any issues I had questions about
