As I unpack the stash I found this full plate of a fully armed foot soldier with a rifle on the small side yet a bayonet on the large side. Seems rather top heavy. Nice watch fob and chain too. A touch dark
Short rifles were intended to have long saber bayonets to offset the advantage of an enemy with a longer rifle with a regular socket bayonet. It was impractical to equip short rifles with extra-long socket bayonets which might bend or even break in combat. And yes, the saber bayonets were top heavy.
It might be a P58 Bar-on-band with saber bayonet? Look how curved the blade is. I'm no expert on telling the difference between a P56 and P58, but I know some who are @Lanyard Puller@Craig L Barry@johan_steele@Jobe Holiday

The P56 bayonet is curved too, the one I used in the picture isn't really the right one, was just using it as an example. I can't tell exactly what it is in the picture.
It isn't English or US but a French/Belgian bayonet as for the M1840 and later series of short rifles. The downturned knob at the end of the cross guard gives it away to me.
