Wow. Lots of options on Gettysburg rocks and fences. We are packing for a 2 week winter interlude so without time to noodle, I am guessing this fence sits behind the Trostle Barn looking north towards the Pa monument.

I cant remember if that fence is 4 or 5 rails. But that is my guess.

You guys amaze me that you can make any kind of guess from a simple fence! 😲

I am purely guessing. It does make it tougher without seeing the entire fence. You can narrow in down somewhat by fence type and it in this case, is it a 4 or 5 rail fence. But without a piece of a monument peeking through or some landmark, you simply guess. Nothing wrong with a guess now and again.

One of my favorite lines from F Troop on how to get to Fort Courage (1960's tv show for the young crowd) was - You take a right at the rock that looks like a bear, then a left at the bear that looks like a rock. I have given similar directions at Gettysburg.

Okay, looks like this one was tough! I liked the Bliss farm guesses (I hadn't thought of that, myself), but it's actually at the other end of the field: the fence around Lee's HQ, looking out toward the RR Cut. I'll post the big pic when I get a chance!

Thanks for playing, folks!

@pamc153PA , Okay, looks like this one was tough!

That may be the understatement of the year! It's fun to guess on the location, but with miles and miles of fence lines and lots of rocks at Gettysburg, it is darn tough to be accurate on the location of a close zoomed in photo.

It's a tough balancing act on this game. Too broad of a photo makes it to easy to guess, too zoomed makes it next to impossible to guess. My thoughts are to focus on photo subjects that would make viewers wanting to visit on their next Gettysburg trip.

I love your photos of fence lines here and on Facebook. Fence lines add so much texture and interest to photos.

However, there are folks here who been to the field many times in their lives or live in and around Gettysburg. If they can't identify a photo location, the people who live far away and that have been to the field on just a few trips don't have a chance of knowing the location.

I hope people who view these posts have a sincere interest in seeing a "now" shot of the battlefield. So it is a tough balance on zooming/cropping photos to give people a chance of knowing the location and more importantly in my eyes is encouraging people to visit that location on a future trip. Maybe a location clue on these tight zoomed photos would help.

But thanks to you and Mark for doing these posts. Still lots of fun. My wife and I are off to warmer lands, so we will see you al in a couple of weeks.
