@Kurtlg I paint only wargame figures, 15 mm, but tried to be as accurate as that scale would allow. Used to paint 30mm back in the 60s but not civil war.
I also wondered about the button from the Trostle farm.
The only Zouaves I did were the 72nd. Pa. and I believe they were actually Zouaves. Although they were not wearing Zouave uniforms at Gettysburg to the best of my knowledge. The figures I painted also had the shorter two band rifle musket with sword bayonet, which to best of my knowledge anyway, that regiment was not issued. I believe they were called Baxter's Philadelphia Fire Zouaves.

I wanted to do the 5th.New York as they appeared at 2nd. Bull Run but arthritis in my right hand put a stop to my painting days.
I assume you paint 54s. I only wish I had the talent for that. What 54s I have I purchased already painted.
I have the Troiani print of the Zouave company of the 69th. at 1st. Bull Run and have two other prints of his. Really nice in my opinion.
I had assumed that distinction between Chasseurs and Zouaves had pretty much been obscured in the U.S. I'm glad someone is interested in these details.
