Zouave Ancestors?

Anybody have any ancestors in any of the Zouave units, or anything like the 1st and 2nd US Sharpshooters? I just haven't seen any discussion on these guys and was interested. Wondered if you knew their stories.

The Zouave Units would also have State designations such as: Baxter's Fire Zouaves/Philadelphia Fire Zouaves were the 72nd Pennsylvania Volunteers and the 1st New York Fire Zouaves was the 11th New York Volunteers. Often, the units were solely identified by their "Official" designations and not their nicknames. Some people may not know that their ancestor's were Zouaves.

One of my mom's friends had an ancestor in the 146th NY "Garrard's Tigers."
