Zouava Soldier (1862)

Does anyone know when and where the original was taken? I've seen this for years and think it's a really great photo, but would like to know why the apparantly wounded zou-zou is in what appears to be an abandoned winter camp. Manassas? Yorktown? ( And if either of those, is he REALLY wounded; or is this another staged-for-the-camera affairs! )
