Thank you for posting this article, it is by one of our own : @Scott Mingus ! It is so easy for the uninformed, such as myself, to view some of these outlying statues as attractive hunks of metal, and nothing else. To read the history, and understand the representation brings forth life to these otherwise historical hunks of eye candy.

For those who spotted the dog statue in the 360-degree view (to the immediate left of the monument), he is not a Civil War dog but a statue called "Iron Mike" that belonged to a Hanover man. The dog was moved to Hanover Square from an earlier location in a cemetery. http://www.hmdb.org/Marker.asp?Marker=4997
