One can only wonder what the story was with these four yanks and their group photo... mess-mates, brothers, pards, fellow non-com's...?

Also an interesting menagerie of uniforms... any thoughts from the uniform experts out there?

I would guess mess mates as they do not resemble each other, except maybe the two on the right.

The great thing about shots like this... I know them!

The 3rd from the left is the Ringleader and is just an all around great guy. Everyone likes him and he thinks he is smooth with the ladies. Truth is, the ladies do like him! Only one person does not care for him... Capt. Stiffneck. That's because Ringleader always has a easy way out of everything... with the help of his Crew.
2nd from the left is Ringleader's buddy from the neighborhood. Been friends for years and even tho he is a little shy and not as flashy. Brains in the group and can plan pranks that Goofball (see next) comes up with.
Far right is the Goofball! They met in camp and he is always joking around and making other laugh. He's outgoing and always hits on the ladies but they just blow him off. Makes funny nicknames for all the other Soldiers in camp.
Far left is the Muscle. Not the smartest in the group, but when times get tough, he is always there to pull it all together and get them out of the jam. Funny thing is, he has the biggest heart of them all and misses his true love that he left behind.

No disrespect intended. I truly do love looking at Pictures like this.

A nice picture, I notice they are all holding cigars, they probably visited the shoe, had their picture taken and then I reckon they hit the bars. The youngest of the group (far right) was probably responsible for getting them back to camp on time and in one piece, he was the nominated driver.

It's a barbershop quartet ... but this would have been from the days before the barbershop quartets, so it's a tenor, two baritones, and a bass.
Sounds good to me, it worked for these guys.

Confederates
"Save Your Confederate money, boys, the South shall rise again!" That song by The Confederates, 1956 International Champions, was to go down in history, and the quartet went on to become a true legend within the Society over the next 13 years. Organized at a Memphis Chapter party in September 1953. The Confederates were a popular quartet even before they won the championship. Composed of George Evans, tenor; Dave LeBonte, lead; Bill "Buz" Busby, bari; and Wally Singelton, bass; the foursome appeared in authentic looking Confederate officer uniforms, complete with dress swords, or as white-haired, frock-coated Southern "Colonels."

Lol...

Still curious about the uniforms of these guys... could they have been serving in some branch outside of the vast Infantry majority, say Quartermasters, Railroads, Artillery, Security (Pinkerton), Recruiting/Enlistment, or some other type of service...?

Is this guy even in the military...?

The gold tinted buttons are typically associated with military uniform, but everything else about his appearance seems civilian.

The mix of military and civilian in the "Quartet" photo reminds me of the photos one sees of Pinkerton with his detectives and spies alongside military associates...
