The uniforms of some state are well covered, but for some states their Civil War uniforms are not covered too well. The uniforms of Wisconsin are not well cover except for the Iron Brigade. This is rather sad because Wisconsin Civil War uniforms is an interesting subject.

The first 8 Wisconsin Infantry regiments received gray uniforms, the first 3 regiments received gray frock coats and the next 5 regiments received gray jackets. Starting with the 9th Infantry (German) Regiment, and ending with the 16th Infantry Regiment, Wisconsin provided 5 button state sack coats with light blue trim on the collar.

People interested in Wisconsin uniforms should look at Frederick P. Todd's American Military Equipage 1851-1872. Here is another book for those who want to see some Wisconsin uniforms.

An interesting older plate from the Company of Military Historians. This Zoauve militia company is not too well known.
