Haven't found this posted before (if so, I'll delete as redundant) but figured it'd be inspiration for one of you magicians to do your thing.

Posted by Gary Aldeman on Zuckerbook, he notes that " More information is in William Frassanito's awesome Grant and Lee book."

JUST read a Union officer's description and observations of prisoners - made him awfully thoughtful. He said that while sure, there seemed no such thing as a uniform, the streamlined pack carried compared to the gear carried by Union troops made them much swifter moving troops. I forget what he said Union troops were encumbered with- shoes, clothing, rations- it was like 60 pounds.

@Ole Miss , bet you're right! Descriptions and pics seem very consistent, don't they?

" Cos he was lean and mean and big and bad and... " Sorry, Lynyrd Skynyrd fan. Made me think of the line.

The article about the photograph mentions not only a woman in uniform being possibly seen in this photograph but a black being among the captured troops too. I have yet to make out the female solider but I do see the black man the article refers to. If you look at the third picture in the post right before mine, standing behind the man with the hands on his hips is a black man. Whether he was a solider or not; I do not know but I do find this interesting.

The best available resource on what Confederate troops looked like in the field. I love these prisoner photos. Thanks for posting.
