Y'all know I'm the worst at identifying anyone in a photo. Which is Wheeler? Make it easy on me with something like 3rd from left.

Here are the NARA caption for the 1st photograph: "Scope and content: Gen. Godfrey Weitzel and staff of ninteen, recognized. 1. Col. Loomis L. Langdon, 2 and 3 not recog., 4. Capt. John E. Remington, 5. Lieut. De Pryster, 6. Capt. Henry C. Lockwood, 7. Not in catalogue, 8. Maj. Atherson H. Stevens, 9. Surgeon Norton Felson, 10. Lieut. Col. Daniel D. Wheeler, 11. Capt. T. E. Graves (Maj. Kmmons E. ?), 12. Gen. George O. Shepley, 13. Lieut. Col. Charles Wheaton, 14. Maj. Wm. E. Furness, 15. Capt. Horace B. Fitch, 16. Capt. Lewis Weitzel, 17. and 18. not recognized, 19. Lieut. Samuel Munson, 20. Maj. Edward P. Morong, M.D. (Capt. Goodrich, Lt. Sylvester R. Partridge)."

The man sitting 10th from left is the one sitting on the steps in the middle in the 1st photographs. He also looks like he has Lt. Colonel insignia, so I think that is him.

Am I missing something? The names are written below the pictures according to their direct (relative) position in it!?!

I´d say sitting on the stairs in the first picture and fifth from left in the second picture.
I will crop him from the photo and send it to the Medal of Honor Museum. I just wanted verification to be sure they get the right man!

We all have to rely on the correct position - and those are usually pretty good. Much less accurate are the ranks, as we frequently find not only the actual rank but either brevet rank (which could also be the one depicted) or the rank at the end of the war; some pictures even include a mixture of both.

Yesterday, upon a stair,
I met a man who wasn't there,
he wasn't there again today,
Oh how I wish he'd go away!
William Hughes Mearns
Great poem but it left me thinking. If someone goes away, then he's gone. If someone who is a non-person, perhaps even an anti-person, goes away, then he's anti-gone perhaps? Since we don't know whether or not he is or isn't, has or hasn't, then it would be fair to say that he probably didn't. I hope that makes sense.

... yes minister

I suppose it depends on what you see as an anti-person. Is a non person the same as an anti-person? If an anti-person is anti-gone, does that mean his wife is Antigone? I have no answers, Waterloo, only existentially-gone questions.

But existentialism is just that, a belief in self and the meaning of life through free will, choice, and personal responsibility. I think therefore I am, the question is, does the man on the step think?
