Where would a lieutenant fall in?

I'm doing a bit of research for a friend who's GGGG Grandfather was a Lieutenant in Co A 91st Pennsylvania Infantry. This Brady photo is the 91st Pa in formation in front of their camp. The 91st had 10 lettered companies, and I see 10 in the photo. I served in the modern Army, with platoon sgts, squads, squad leaders etc,, but have no clue about how CW troops fell in. Where would a company officer fall in to the ranks? Would the Lieutenants be in file, or be in the group of men at the head of the regiment? I'd love to be able to tell her "here is Company A,, znd your Grandfather would probably be here X"

Was the lieutenant in question a first lieutenant, or a second lieutenant? According to the regulations and the infantry tactics, for this formation he should be in front of the first or second platoons.

The fourth section would have been on the extreme left side of the company. But the U.S. Army got rid of the 3rd lieutenant in volunteer infantry regiments, so the positions would be slightly different.

Sources all agree that photo is of a Regiment at Camp Northumberland but
Metropolitan Art museum says 91st PA https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/268181
while Gasbarro says it's the 96th http://civilwar.gratzpa.org/2011/02/photographic-history-index-to-pennsylvania-regiments/

They would stand wherever the 1st Sergeant would tell them to .

Unfortunately this is the 96th Pennsylvania Infantry. Here are two prints made from original negatives that show greater detail. Both are from the National Archives.
