Where were grenades stored?

If you're a Union Soldier going over the top at Petersburg and you're issued Ketchum grenades where'd you store them?

I read an account that a man carrying two 1 pounders in hand was followed by a friend carrying both rifles…

If i recall, the blast radius was typically greater than the distance most men could lob them…?

I think I'd rater be the gun bearer in that situation and not following very closely

At Port Hudson they carried them in their hands and their rifle was slung over their shoulder. Remember, the Ketchum were of various weights/sizes.
