I recently visited the Crawford W. Long Museum in Jefferson, Georgia. Here in the south we were taught that it was he who first used anesthesia during an operation. He was Alexander Stephen's roommate in college.I've often wondered if anesthesia was ever available or used during the CW. He did enlist as a private but stayed close to home working on soldiers from both sides as a surgeon.

I've always thought of a soldier taking a couple stiff drinks of strong whiskey and then given a bullet or a stick to bite on before amputating a limb.

We were lucky, we visited the courthouse and it was being renovated. It was during lunch and the workers were gone. The tour guide took us to the top with the clock and the bell tower. We rang the bell.
