This is a blended then and now of Mathew Brady's photograph showing his assistant apparently pointing to the location in Herbst Woods where General Reynolds was killed. The insert shows the original image from which I copied Brady and his assistant into the same location in my now view.

I feel strange in liking these wonderful photos depicting the site of such a tragedy, but it is part of our Heritage. August two years ago, MrsMRB and I were visiting "Reynolds' Woods". The weather was typical mid-August heat and humidity. We took retreat from the heat into the shade of the woods while we discussed some of the events that occurred there. MrsMRB saw a pretty rock in the dirt and prodded it with a stick, when she picked it up she said it was so clod she felt like it was winter. She put the rock back and covered it up with dirt and leaves. Suddenly and very briefly a strong very cold breeze encircled us. Cold enough that we walked back out of the woods almost shivering and stood by the Reynolds' Monument. The temperature was as it was before we entered the woods, typical August uncomfortable!!! Emerging back into the sweltering heat actually felt good after the unexpected cold. You may think I am nuts, but this happened!

Thanks for bringing us these interesting photos!

I am sure they were wondering about the Jeep on the road....

Great photos again! I enjoy your "then and now" photos.
I looked at the image closer and the funny thing is it is actually a mix of THREE generations in the picture. The image of "then", the "now" as well as the car which instead of a Jeep is actually a 1920's/30's car. (Forgive me for the car identification as old cars are not my thing - I just know it is really old. lol)

Being from Pa I've always had a special like for Gen. Reynolds. I visited the spot where he fell today. If anyone is interested this is what it currently looks like. I see they added some flags and a small sign:

My mom and I had a very similar experience near the 24th Michigan monument about 15 years ago.
