...why is this a noted site?

Looks like the road descends, but what hill is it? Don't think its Culps, Power's, Wolf, Oak or the Round Tops, so I am stumped.

I thought it might be seldom visited South Cavalry Ave., but I think it is not paved. So I am also stumped...

Wild Guess Cross Ave..... Rose farm to the left.... Wheatfield to the right just passed the old Trolley bed.

Who is familiar with Wolf's Hill? Is there anything over there like this? Some old photos show a road with a similar geography but I'm not familiar with a "modern view."

I don't remember there being a sign like that, but the pavement itself reminds me of the path that used to be Chamberlain Ave.

Tough one. The only road I can think of that could be that narrow is Williams Avenue at Culp's Hill, but there are no waysides on there. Could it possibly be one of the paths from the Visitor's Center over to the Taneytown Road? I vaguely remember a wayside mentioning Fantasyland over there, so I'll guess that's why the spot is notable.

That it is! The significance of the site (which is part 2 of the question) is , of course, that the ground was ordered held. Vincent and Chamberlain and crews did a great job at doing just that! Chamberlain Avenue prior to its removal followed roughly the same direction...good call on that answer too! I recall Chamberlain Avenue as being unpaved though...any input???

I'm shocked that we didn't do a better job on this one. Congrats to those who guessed right.

The original Chamberlain ave was paved. It ran across the ground to the east of the 20th Me monument, in the main direction the 15th ALwas posted. The new paved walking path heading to the monument was done awhile back, after the popularity of the movie. A few years ago the NPS repaved the old Chamberlain ave, making it a walking trail. Here is a pic of the old Chamberlain ave taken appx 1900
