The SW corner of the intersection is land owned at the time of the battle by John Wentz's son, Henry. Henry, who had moved to Virginia prior to the war, was a sergeant in Taylor's Virginia Battery located near the Warfield property, and firing in the direction of his Father's house.

It is the only known silk production site on the battlefield.

("Old man [John Wentz] and old woman [Mrs. Wentz, his second wife], owners of the house, fed silkworms in the attic of their 1 ½ story log building")

You may not be able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but you can make one out of a moth larvae's saliva.
