When Yankees Fought Yankees

I read the link and was not surprised that recruiting prisoners for the CSA so late in the war was not an overwhelming success. I would hesitate to use the word volunteer for either side. Neither sides prison camps were not all that wonderful and survival on limited bad food and unlimited microbes was not given. Some prisoners no doubt though of joining the other side has the least bad option.

A better example of yankee on yankee hostility would be along the Mo and Kn border where Union forces at one time were ordered to shoot Kn Union troops on sight if the crossed the Mo border due to their acts of extreme mischief.
