Seen this uniform at a reenactments today. I figure that most form members can offer a good guess.

Nice frock coat and Hardee hat with all the trimmings. Once I get the pre-1861 dark blue uniform trousers hemmed, I'll have to post myself in my "dressed" Hardee hat that includes Company B and "3" for the Bexar County, CSA Third Volunteer Infantry--Texas. Co. A was Anglo-Texan, Company B German-speaking, and so on. Company F were Spanish-speakers. Some others were totally mixed.

For duty inside Texas, they wore U.S. army uniform items looted, erm, uh, "surrendered" by Gen. Twiggs just before Lincoln's inauguration. For duty outside Texas, they had to put on gray outfits of course, lest they suffer "gray on gray" vs. "blue on blue..."

His boots are like full-on Marschieren stiefel jack-boots, no? I've seen some such boots in photos, but mostly the ankle-boot "Brogans."

Yes, in photos of western Federal infantry they're often wearing pull on boots, but usually not with the trousers tucked into them. Even today many rural Midwesterners like pull on work boots rather than those that use laces.
