Found this among bullets and a button last week does anyone know what it is has 2 rivets and is brass.

Keyhole Cover / Escutcheon... may have come off a box... luggage... cabinets, furniture drawers and host of other things that had a internal lock...

Yea I just thought it was something else because of the 2 brass rivets they look to be like rivets found on other items used on belts and other leather items.

that is still a pretty neat find. Someone lost ti, so that alone leaves a small mystery. What was in the box? Not a big thing, but it is still poses a mystery. One never knows what can be dug up. I used to do archaeology, so it makes you wonder.

Many boxes, trunks and chest would have had locks at the time. Just as most suitcases have locks now.

Could be from a small carpet bag they were popular at the time.
