What if Porter got stuck?

That was probably the dumbest maneuver Yankees ever made, to go up Steele Bayou into Muddy Creek, to Deer Creek then up as far as Rolling Fork. They had to have troops scattered along those banks to keep from being captured. The Confederates artillery were in the Indian mounds in Rolliing Fork but not enough troops to take them out. At the same time the Confederates were obstructing Little Sunflower river. Idk how in the world they could and did escape with the boats. When I was a boy I lived at Blanton plantation which is on Deer Creek and found my first two minie balls in a turnip patch.
