Collection What does every collection need?

Everybody has their own personal preferences on what they collect. Boyd's Bears( Boring) , Bottles (Yes, that's cool), 1950's Plastic(why?), Playboy (oh dear), Furniture (fair enough), Guitars (fine with me) are some of the thousands of things folks collect. But I'm talking about the cool stuff. Civil War relics. So what does every Civil War collection need at some point? I'd say bullets...

I love collecting all things dug but I'm partial to dug CS State plates.

Deep pockets and a tolerant spouse helps.

I already decided long ago, that a girlfriend or marriage is not for me. I want to be fully 100% devoted to my job, and relaxation (detecting, battlefield visits, etc.) when I'm not working.

Besides, the salary of a rail conductor helps a lot in the collecting field.

Bullets, artillery shells, cavalry sabers, muskets, revolvers, uniforms, photos, etc. The list
is endless but all are relevant. But I really would like to have an authentic kepi. Sigh.
If you had an authentic Kepi how would you preserve . When I purchased the union artillery, one it was in a plastic gallon bag. Not sure if that is the way to preserve them correctly. I want to display them, but not in a plastic bag. If you have any ideas, I would appreciate them. I have enclosed a few pics.

Definitely keep them out of plastic! It won't breath, and the chemicals in the plastic could cause deterioration. I'd build, or have built, a small display case out of uv blocking plexiglass, and have the bottom or back made of wool felt, so the case can breath.

Also, @rebatheart what I would order from Amazon, before you get the case built, is non-acidic tissue paper and a non-acidic box(es) for those hats. Definitely more money but so worth it. DON'T stuff the hats, but wad up the tissue paper just enough so the hats keep their form and don't sink in and crease the wool more. Put them in the non-acidic boxes to keep them out of the light and keep the wool moths and other bugs like crickets, who love wool, away from them. Make sure there aren't any wool moth eggs getting into them now, before you put them in the boxes.

I've bought the non-acidic paper and boxes from Amazon before for some vintage fabric and they are well-worth it.
