What did Confederate emancipation look like?

With the United States Army poised to take Richmond in the spring of 1865, the confederate government, in an act of desperation, allowed slaves to be armed to help defend the city. The first black company was formed on March 25, 1865 with the promise of emancipation with the stipulation that the slave's master must agree in writing. This emancipation only applied to slaves who enlisted for military duty and did not end the institution of slavery.

My question is this:

What did this freedom look like? Were these armed slaves given full rights of citizenship (vote, ability to own land, or to hold public office?)
