What are these small lead shields?

Hello folks. This is my first post. Please see attached two photos. I purchased these two lead shield pieces at the recent Mansfield Ohio Civil War show. I cannot see where these ever had any inscriptions. I believe the shield in 9th Corps but maybe not. Any clue as to what these are? Dug in the Dalton, Ga. area. Thank you. Tom

They almost look like a provost badge for someone assigned to or as the provost marshal. I wish I could remember the document or source in which I saw something similar.

If they were at Dalton, I don't believe it would be IX Corps. That corps was back in Virginia with the AotP by the time Sherman moved into Dalton.

These appear to be field cast from the same mold with most likely brass wires for attachment as there does not appear to be rust staining and the associated corrosion one would see with ferrous metal.

Whatever rusted away didn't look like the common T bar you find on badges. I thought rosettes too.

I don't think there was anything ferrous as there is no evidence of corrosion appears as if there were brass attachment wires that pulled away for some reason.
