Anyone know - was the West Point curriculum dramatically revised in the years following the Civil War? So many new things to teach including how to wield huge divisions and formations, joint operations with naval assets, siege warfare, and all of the new weapons and technological innovations.

My grandfather was in the class of 1906. He loved to tell stories of horsemanship classes, where they were taught to ride standing astride the backs of two horses trotting along together. So much for technological innovation in those early 20th century years!

West Point was very slow to revise its curriculum, but under the influence of the writings of men like Emory Upton, it started to do so after the turn of the century.
