Did her daughter get married in the same dress? I'm only asking because I know that in some families the wedding dress was passed down.

I don't think so. Nellie was married in the White House and the dress looked period.

You might try contacting the US Grant home and/or the historical society in Galena, Illinois.

I would also like a fully reproduced in every manner General Grant to marry. Just kiddin, I will look into the home and historical societies. Appreciate the help.

For any of you interested, the grant library contacted me back. They said they only have a description: "a magnificent, rich, soft, white, watered silk." The veil was "white tulle with lovely wide fringe." She fastened "white cape jessamines" to the veil and had a corsage bouquet of the same flowers."

thats at least something to go on. Now to find a civil war gown maker.... Anyone know any good ones? I can pay for quality this is hopefully once in a lifetime! (Ok twice, but we can ignore that first try.)
