As some of you know, I am part of an online genealogy group that meets weekly; the group is led by the genealogy librarian at the Maine State Library. Tonight's session had to do with various useful sites. One of the other members uses this site:
https://genealogy.stackexchange.com/ Registration is free but I don't know that it is necessary. It's rather like reddit but just for genealogy records. I used the search mechanism: entered "civil war pensions" and up popped a lot of questions (and answers) about what is where.
