Weapons of Certain Regiments

Hello, I am currently trying to research what weapons regiments in the west used particularly in the Vicksburg Campaign were armed with, and also did any of the Union troops during the Red River Campaign and Camden Expedition were armed with repeaters. Could anyone help me out with this?

You're going to have to find an accurate order of battle for both campaigns annd go through the Coates book. That will give you the rough weapons assigned to the regiments involved for Vicksburg. The Red River… not so much.

Off hand I'm unaware of any Regiment in the mentioned campaigns with repeaters.

Sorry to butt in but this is an interesting topic that encompasses many battles. I found this display in the Gettysburg NPS museum interesting. I wouldn't have thought regular units carried Sharps. I would have thought it was for more specialist units ?

"The regiment numbered 1,015 men and were to be armed withSpringfield rifles, with the exception of Companies A and B, which were to be equipped with Sharp's rifles."
page 16

When the unit, originally went into combat at Antietam the regiment was hard pressed to even load their muskets thanks to very short training. But the two companies with sharps helped.
