This is the same Waterhouse that shelled the Mississippi boys in Rhea Field at Shiloh. Here the battery would be shelling the Stockade Redan which is across the ravine.

I did not know that, thanks for the info. I always wonder if the little fortification (or lunette or redan)in fron of the guns is original or rebuilt by the CCC in the 1930's-1960's. Do you know anything about the Federal battery located near here on a very high mound? I don't see it on Civilwaralbum, although its probably there I just don't recognize it. The mound is so high and prominent I figure probably original.

There are some parrot guns on a higher elevation about 600 feet east from these. I have pics but can't remember which battery it is. I'll go through my files to see if I can identify the battery or if I have a nice photo.

Oh, MT155, surely you jest when you say excuse! Surely you need to take a further research trip for additional documentation of this site for historical preservation and presentation reasons!

Sorry....no good picks and no pics of the tablets to tell which battery it is. I guess that gives me an excuse to visit again.
Rats... I could kick myself for not walking the little ways to that elevated artillery position, probably thought about it...but it was the drought summer of 2012... in Vicksburg...in July... very hot...I was panting. Oh well, like you say, it just makes me want to go back there so much more.

I found a pic.....This is taken from under one of the parrots. The Stockade Redan is in the distance. It is quite a commanding view of the Confederate lines. The Union Traverse is on the left and the two guns of Waterhouse's Battery are tiny in the right center. Click on the pic for a bit larger view.

That looks like the position I was thinking of, it is quite high up if I remember. Thanks!
