Greetings.
(Apologies in advance if this has been placed in the wrong thread.)

Today I had a friend drop by. A suprise to be sure. When I stepped outside and Didn't get hit with a paintball gun, I was suprised when he handed me a small trinket. Upon further inspection, it was some kind of little black powder pistol.

We exchanged pleasantries, and he went on his way. Going inside, my first thought was to contact the experts here, because I am at a loss when it comes to identifying weaponry.

Pictures of the weapon are here:

The identifying markers on the bottom read

CMC
9 4 1 6 A

I'd also like to know if this is safe to fire. It's rusting in some places, and I had been told it was in storage for quite some time.

How id love to have something like this to use at a reenactment, but I wish not to lose my hand when taking my dying breath pot-shot at a rebel.

Anyways, I thank you in advance, and canne wait to hear what is to be said about it.

I am human,

It is a later 20th century reproduction by CMC. They made a variety of basic brass framed percussion pistol kits, including a pepperbox and a "duckfoot" pistol. The quality is mediocre generally, but they were intended to be functional and fireable. While it is most likely safe to shoot, no one on the internet should tell you if firearms are safe to shoot or not. Only a qualified gunsmith should make such a statement after physically inspecting a firearm.

Thank you! I will definitely have it cleaned up, and inspected. Nice to know it's a repop.
