Can anyone please help with the above step? Do I literally cut off the back seam allowance and then double over the remaining material to the front? Thanks!

Pretty much. It is called "felling." I am guessing there is 1/2-inch seam allowances on both sides of the seam, and what he suggests is to sew the main seam, and then trim off 1/4-inch of the seam allowance on the back side. Then turn and fell down the seam allowance of the untrimmed side over the seam.

Thanks, I did call. Still confused in how there is an exposed stitch on the outside. They have great customer service I just hate to bother them with every small question.
I'm sure they don't mind. I get the idea they rather answer sewing questions than the "where is my order" questions.
