Wambaugh and White CS Haversack Kit

Greetings fellow nerds!

Since I've gotten into the hobby, I've been using a typical sutler row heavy canvas haversack. The one with the black strap with a plastic buckle on it. It's served me well, but I'm never happy with my impression, apparently, so I've been wanting an upgrade for some time now. The problem is, haversacks aren't necessarily cheap(the good ones) and more obvious areas have always taken precedent over something people probably aren't paying attention to.

I've also been wanting to learn to sew. @Rusk County Avengers suggested that a good learning project might be this kit. It did seem simple enough, even for me, and heck it's $25. So I ordered one. It came today, a week before their site said it would even SHIP, and it's on my desk awaiting my meager skills.

I have off this Sunday, and will be working on it then. I'll post updates and pics here, showing the process of putting this together, so check back and follow along!

I appreciate the compliments, but if I remember correctly, I wanna say @captaindrew recommended this kit and I just agreed. I just suggested you can do it.

I can't remember if I ever watched this whole video, but I'd bet it'll be helpful to you. These guys are good at being helpful with videos. Also, they like W&W kits.

I made this kit. Great first kit. Subsequently I made the US issue shirt and now I'm working on a civilian shirt. Good luck on your haversack. Also check the strap length before you sew it on. Mine is too long...

Also thanks for that video! I watched a video on whipstitching, and even I was like "oh that's just a basic stitch, should be Fine!" (my words will be marked, I'm sure)

If this works out, I will definitely be moving on to other kits from them! A civilian shirt or drawers is probably the next logical step from here.

You can curse me, I have thick shoulders I'm sure you'll do fine, just be patient and take your time and I'm sure it will come out good.

Don't ask me, I've wondered the same thing! I originally ordered one with a button closure, but Regimental QM was out, so they asked if I'd be okay with the one with the strap for the same price, so I said yes.

It's not done. I haven't even attempted to start it yet. Actually I haven't touched it since I moved it off my desk to take the desk down. I'm just here to let you know not to expect any pics or other updates to this thread(that you probably forgot about anyway) because I'm probably not ever getting this done. lol

Frustrating because the rest of it turned out really nice.

Life, work, things around the house, and everything in-between is the enemy of a sewing project for reenacting. However, all projects have a habit of getting done.

I finished my civilian shirt! BUT unfortunately, I messed up the collar, so it's off to the left instead of centered! I spoke with Dan about it and he said that I had it sewn to the wrong side.

Frustrating because the rest of it turned out really nice.

The seam ripper is your friend. I'm afraid that learning to sew and follow pattern instructions inevitably requires a few do-overs. It's easy to remove stitches with this simple gadget.
