I purchased the John Collison Mansfield medal group, which also includes a membership badge for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

However, I can't find any information about his father, Walter Collison Mansfield (1848–1935), serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. Can you help me?

The only Union soldier found with that given name was Pvte. Walter Mansfield who enlisted in Co. G, 3rd CA Infantry on Dec. 2, '62, at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory (UT), then transferred to Co. B on Jan. 20, '64, before m/o at Salt Lake , UT, on Dec. 1, '65, at the expiration of his term of service.

But if his dob year was 1848, then it's unlikely to be him as he would have been aged 14 years at enlistment time.

There is another individual with the same name of Walter Collison Mansfield (1847-1936) who has a 'Find-a-Grave' listing at:-

But no indication is provided for the above individual that he served in the Union army or had issue named John Collison Mansfield.

No, it's the Members' Medal. I myself am a recipient of the Associates' Medal.
The seller mentioned in his listing that he had found evidence that the soldier's father went to war at the age of 16, in 1864.
I asked the seller if he could provide me with this information (a link or something similar?)! But he couldn't!
Therefore, this group of medals was compiled to the detriment of collectors, and I withdrew the purchase!

I thank you all for your help in protecting me from harm!
