I was just joking of course, but there's a reason they teach soldiers not to put their hands on the rifle muzzle.

But you know that's modern firearms safety training, not period. I can show you a number of photos of men leaning on or holding the muzzle of the rifle. While I agree that it's a bad idea, and if you see someone doing it now, you should immediately correct them, it was not an 1860s issue.
