We all know that winning a war is very dependent on supplies and for many years the army wagon was the wheels that ensured victory. So I have a couple of questions for our wagon experts.

Civil War wagons externally look a lot like American Revolution wagons, had there been any real improvement in the designs of army wagons form 1776 to 1861?

Did the Civil War show any shortcomings of army wagons that were corrected during the War?

What improvements in army wagons occurred after the Civil War? Were the wagon of the Spanish American War much different?

The Conestoga style wagons of the American Revolutionary War era were no longer used by the Civil War. In 1858 the US Army went to new style wagons. Improvements were made during the Civil War but by 1878 the Army decided the designs of the US Army Escort Wagons were changed. The six-mule wagons were replaced with four-mule wagons.

Why did the Army decide the Civil War era wagons needed improvements?
