Hello all,
I am planning a train trip and was wanting to from from Huntington, WV to Manassas. It would be about a 1 day stop over and I was curious how the park is laid out. Are there many hotels nearby like Gettysburg, or would it require a car rental to get from point A to point B? Are things pretty close together or is a car tour like Gettysburg suggested?
Thanks,
Matt

You could see some things from the visitor center since you can walk from there to see the Stone House and such. I would look into renting a car since there is so much more to see that is too far to walk. There are plenty of hotels near by.

Plenty of hotels nearby, though there may only be one or two within walking distance. It's not a pedestrian-friendly area, unlike Gettysburg.

There are loop hiking trails for First Manassas (approx 5 miles) and Second Manassas (approx 6 miles). There is a self-guided driving tour for 2nd Manassas. There is a short self-guided hiking tour for First Manassas, which focuses on the area around Henry Hill.

I'd recommend getting a car. That said, it's a great place for hiking/walking if that's something you like to do.

First Manassas is walkable (in really nice weather) but it's a full day. I agree with everybody suggesting a car, especially if you want to see the Second Manassas sites.
As for hotels, there are hotels in the area, but not in the immediate vicinity of the battlefield (as you would see in Gettysburg).

There was (is?) nowhere on the battlefield to stay or eat, but pretty much can be walked after you get there and if you don't mind walking a lot. First Manassas was generally within about a quarter section. Second Manassas involved considerably more expansive, say about a section.
