We are getting ready to leave on Friday for Pensacola and Tallahassee. But last night my wife said she might want to go to Mobile for a day or two. I had not really given Mobile any thought. We will be wondering about Florida for two to three weeks and I see not reason we could not add Mobile to things to see.

So tonight I will look over things to see in Mobile. Perhaps there are enough places for two days? Some of the museums seem like an hour or two hour site. What about the forts, are we talking a half of a day or an hour or so at each of the forts?

Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines are well worth the time.
Visiting battleship Alabama is (and the associated displays) are very worthwhile.
Do not forget vsiting the USS Drum!

I agree with all of the above !

Mobile, Alabama is a must for anyone interested in history.

On a separate note, I highly recommend staying at The Grand hotel ( circa 1847) across the bay . . . in Point Clear, Alabama.

The countryside down there is absolutely gorgeous.

Which is why my wife wants to do the Civil War Trails there, because "Mobile Bay would be beautiful". I am assuming this will include eating at any cute restaurants and shopping at any stores sighted.

My spouse and I spent just a couple of hours on a Wednesday afternoon driving down and back up part of the eastern shore of Mobile Bay and visiting Point Clear Confederate Rest Cemetery this past June. It was very peaceful and beautiful. I can only imagine what the rest of it looks like. Very much looking forward to finding out some day soon.

Absolutely!

There' enough quaint shops to keep her occupied for two days, while you try to see all of the military history sites within two days.
It's a "win-win" for any couple.

:bounce:

Plus, the fresh seafood is fantastic.

Yep. That's how me and my spouse roll. She's not interested in my history stuff. She'll sit in the vehicle from time-to-time while I walk the ground. I end up sitting on a bench in the atrium while she walks the ground. :D

another interesting historical and horticultural site in the area while not CW, is Bellingrath. It will certainly meet beautiful, both the home and grounds
