I tried out the free AI version of Ideogram the other night and asked it to generate "Confederate Soldier." I got some decent results, but failed to save them. These I generated just now, adding 1863 to the request. They are terrible compared to the other night, which certainly needed a few changes in uniform and weapons.

:bounce: Yeah - those are awful. The AI seems to have been fed a steady diet of European 20th century images. The first soldier is clearly wearing a German tunic - the pocket detail is distinctive. The second is highly reminiscent of Great War German and Austrian clothing. The last one is straight up Commonwealth. Napoleon in rags - IDK where that stuff came from. None of the belted accoutrements are remotely similar to anything worn between 1861-1865. But I want that hatchet AK that the first soldier has - it´s like a light saber shearing through his wrist. Jeepers is he tough or what!

I've been using one called Tangra which is pretty good, but apparently I'm limited in how many I can generate.

Did you also ask for "muskrat perched on head" for #3?
Between that and CONFIDILL WAR ERA I 8663 in #2 and the Tredegar Iron Works thingamagig in #1, the surrealism is strong.
I think you should keep pushing until that AI program has a nervous breakdown.

Notice the errors on the buttons and the weird buckle. It sometimes generates people with three arms or legs and things like that.

When Lt Dan emerged from the medical tent, he found that not only had his wounded leg not been amputated, the surgeons had actually sewn a third, matching leg onto his torso. (I used Tangra on this one. It's so bad a platform that I deleted my account.)

Those are hilarious! They look like cut scenes from the ¨Gods and Generals¨ video game! (Which, BTW, was universally panned.) The odd buttons and vague, sorta like a carbine weapons in the August 12 post are amusing.
