Stopped into a little private used book store today as my wife was looking for a few books. I wandered over to the "history" section expecting nothing much, but lo and behold I found these.

The 3 book set The Civil War is like new and looks like a good generic overview with lots of great pictures of uniforms, gear, weapons, etc. I'm not sure that $15 was a good deal but perhaps average; still it helps a local merchant so I don't mind.

The Botetourt Artillery book is from the Virginia Regimental Histories Series. I have a couple of books in that series already (22nd Virginia Cavalry and 50th Virginia Infantry as my paternal gggrandfather and gggranduncles served in those units). I'm not familiar with the Botetourt Artillery but for $8 I figured I couldn't go wrong.

They also had another Regimental Histories books on the 51st Virginia Infantry and the 12th Virginia Infantry for $10 each which I should have gotten. I'll go back for one or both this week hopefully.

Love when I'm pleasantly surprised like this!

In looking on AbeBooks, I find the paperback set in its slipcover box (used) goes for about $22 to $45. If you bought the volumes separately, the price for all three together (but without the slipcover box) would be in the same neighborhood. Your books look to be in very good condition. I think you did good price-wise, too. I have the older hardbound set of the books. It took me forever to get all three, and they don't have a box.

Sounds like these are personally rewarding finds.

Regarding the plain-looking Artillery book cover.

Think this experience serves to show that one can never judge a book solely by its cover (or lack thereof).
