United States Colored Troops Living History Association

Solicitation for 2017 Events

The USCTLHA is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote and accurately interpret the history of the United States Colored Troops of the American Civil War and those that supported their efforts to abolish slavery and preserve the Union. Additionally, the association seeks to educate the public and promote research of the history and legacy of those who served in the American Civil War.

The USCTLHA is currently accepting proposals for 2017 events. The deadline for submissions is Monday, February 29, 2016. A final determination will be made by April 4, 2016. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line "Maximum Effort Events 2017." Please include the following with your written submissions:

Type of the event:
  • Living History with a battle scenario (reenactments of....)
  • Living History with a garrison scenario (non-battle ie training (school of the solider, artilleryman, seaman, cavalry), recruitment, enlistment scenarios)
  • Commemoration, Dedication, or Ceremonial (ie parade, tombstone dedication, ceremonial honor guard)Symposium, Seminar, or Exhibition/Display
Please note that "Living History" is being defined using the National Association for Interpretation definition: "An attempt to accurately replicate the past through the use of a physical environment and the sights, sounds, and smells of the period being represented. The two major types of interactive living history interpretation are first-person and third-person." See http://www.definitionsproject.com/definitions/index.cfm
  • Description of the event and the planned scenario(s)
  • Date and Location of event
  • Description of how this event connects with the USCLTHA mission statement and USCT history
  • Information on host unit and site (historical background)
  • Amenities offered to participants and the public
